New Membership

Complete this application if you are a new member moving to an existing home or business within Riverland Energy’s service area. We will need the following to get you started in your application for membership:

  1.  Membership application
  2. Processing fee of $15 (to be applied to your first bill)
  3. Choose one of the following:
    • a security deposit (See below for more details on deposit amount)
    • a  letter of good credit from your previous electric provider
    • sign up for Automatic Bill Pay through SmartHub (RECOMMENDED) or by filling out the auto pay form and returning it along with a voided check.
    • sign up for Prepay Billing
     *** *To sign up for SmartHub, you will need an account number. This number will NOT be available until your membership application has been approved.

Deposit

All primary account holders are required to undergo a credit check unless they have been a secondary member for more than five (5) years without any payment or account issues. The credit check results will determine the member’s financial responsibility tier, as outlined below:

Prepaid requires a $50 minimum initial payment to set up the account. The Cooperative reserves the right to reassign tiers.

Additional Fees

  • Processing Fee (new membership fee):  $15.00
  • Disconnect Fee/Onsite Collection Fee: $50.00
  • Reconnect Fee:  $50.00  *no crews will be sent for reconnect after 8:00 p.m. except for emergencies
  • Connect/Reconnect Fee: Disconnected, then reconnected within 12 months at member request only with same membership: $400.00
  • Penalty Date/ Late Charges: 1%
  • Non-sufficient Funds Checks, ACH Drafts, Returned Electronic Fund Transfers (EFT) Payments: $25.00

Joint Memberships are Encouraged for Riverland Energy Cooperative Members

A joint membership has two names listed on the account and bill. This is most often a spouse. Both people may inquire about account information or makes changes to the service. Although only one vote is allowed per membership, either may cast the vote. Both are entitled to receive any capital credit refunds issued to the account.

A single membership lists one name on the account and bill. Only that person will be able to inquire about specific account information or make changes to his or her service. In addition, only the person listed may vote in the cooperative’s annual election, and any capital credit refunds will be issued in only that person’s name.
