A roadside emergency can happen in any season and in any kind of weather. Heavy rain, high winds, snow, ice or poor visibility can turn an ordinary drive into a dangerous situation in seconds. If your vehicle strikes a power pole, service pedestal or other electrical equipment, or if power lines fall onto your vehicle, do you know what to do?

Your first priority is to stay in the vehicle. Treat every downed line as energized, call 911 and wait for emergency responders or Riverland Energy Cooperative personnel to tell you it is safe to leave.

Knowledge can save your life. License to Live is a joint project of Wisconsin’s Electric Cooperatives that helps drivers understand how to respond when a vehicle is involved in an accident with electrical equipment or downed power lines, no matter the season or conditions outside.
