Youth Ambassadors Attend Co-ops Yes! Youth Leadership Conference
Ten local students were sponsored recently by Riverland Energy Cooperative to attend the Cooperative Network’s Co-ops Yes! Youth Leadership Conference in Eau Claire on March 5-6. Those who attended include: Laura Brevick, Wyatt Hamilton, Nathan Lodermeier, Cole Herold, Wyatt Johnson, and Lauren Loock, all from Alma High School. Also attending were Alexi Hunter from G-E-T High School, Alex Boehm from Arcadia High School, and Reghan Rud and Amber Clouse, both from Gilmanton High School.
The conference is designed to help students gain a better understanding of the role and operation of cooperatives. Students spend two days learning about cooperatives through presentations, case studies and networking with professionals while connecting with other student leaders from across Minnesota and Wisconsin. They heard from renowned youth motivational speaker, Craig Hillier, who entertained the group with his stories, made the students work as a team, and inspired the students with his messages on life lessons. The students also enjoyed a hypnotist and dance following a banquet on Monday evening.
Each year, participants elect a panel of their peers to serve on the Youth Board. These individuals will attend additional sponsored learning events throughout the year, tour area cooperatives and aid in planning the next year’s conference. Wyatt Hamilton and Alex Boehm were elected to represent the 2018-19 Co-ops Yes! Youth Board.
